This is the story of Tayyaba, an 18-year-old girl. According to her statement, in 2019, her family arranged her marriage with Muhammad Sajid, son of Mustafa, belonging to the Muslim Hashmi caste. She was a resident of Pumpa Wala Pull, Chawewala, Tehsil Sahiwal, District Sargodha.
Her departure (rukhsati) was scheduled to take place 25 days after the marriage, but for some reason, it did not happen. Tayyaba did not want to go to her husband’s house, but her family was forcing her to do so. She repeatedly told them that she did not want to live with Muhammad Sajid and wanted a divorce. However, her family was adamant about sending her with him against her will.
Fearing for her life, she left home at 3 a.m. While she was wandering near Pumpa Wala Pull, Chawewala, a patrolling police team noticed her. When questioned, she told them that her life was in danger. The police took her into custody and presented her before the SP Sahiwal at the police station, where they also informed her family. When asked if she wanted to return home, Tayyaba refused, saying she feared for her safety. Consequently, the police sent her to Darul Aman for protection.
At Darul Aman, Tayyaba requested to speak to someone on the phone. She called a man named Tahir and asked him to pick her up from outside Darul Aman. When he arrived, he convinced the authorities to release her into his care. She left with him on his motorcycle, and they went to a house where some of his friends were present.
Once there, Tahir told her to wait while he brought food and a cleric. However, Tayyaba insisted that she needed to finalize her divorce first. A few minutes later, Tahir returned with two of his friends, but his demeanor had changed. He now carried a weapon. Sending his friends into the next room, he threatened Tayyaba at gunpoint and raped her.
Tayyaba resisted and, in a desperate attempt to escape, managed to push him away and run. She ran for a long time until she came across a man and a woman, whom she asked for directions to the police station. Eventually, she reached the police station, where she reported the crime. The police then transferred her to Hawa Shelter Home for her safety.
Now, from the shelter home, Tayyaba appeals for justice. She demands the immediate arrest of the accused and calls for the strictest punishment for him.
