Iqra's Story
My name is Iqra. I got married, and my husband took my rightful share of the inheritance from me. I trusted his words and willingly gave it to him. Despite my efforts to compromise and maintain our relationship, he subjected me to physical and emotional abuse. My sister and brother-in-law had warned me about his true nature, cautioning that he would take my money and still mistreat me. Yet, I ignored their advice, hoping for the best.
Even after enduring his abuse and sacrificing my inheritance for him, he divorced me and threw me out of the house. I was left on the streets with my two-and-a-half-year-old child, helpless and alone.
The Satellite Town police found me in distress, crying on the streets. They questioned me about my family, and I explained that my husband had abandoned me and that I had nowhere to go. I requested them to take me to an orphanage, but instead, they brought me to Star Welfare Organization Hawa Shelter Home (Panahgah) for my safety and well-being.
Once at the shelter home, I pleaded for help in reaching my sister, Rafia, who lives in Rawalpindi. I provided her contact number, hoping she would come and take me in. The organization contacted my sister, and both she and my brother-in-law spoke with me over the phone. I begged them to take me, but they said they were unable to come to Sargodha. Instead, they sent my maternal aunt (Khala) and her daughter to the shelter home to meet me.
During the meeting, in the presence of Baba Muhammad Shafiq Dogar (President of Star Welfare Organization Hawa Shelter Home Panahgah) and Ms. Riffat Rani (In-charge of Hawa Shelter Home), I expressed my wish to go with my aunt. After discussing my situation, the shelter home decided to hand me over to her care.
Now, I am with my aunt, trying to rebuild my life for the sake of my child and myself.
